The project at a glance

There is a lack of high-quality, practical vocational training with recognized qualifications in rural regions of Ghana. At the same time, there is a growing need for well-trained specialists in sustainable agriculture, renewable energies, construction and infrastructure technology and the hospitality industry. Many young people are unable to find a job after leaving school, while key industries of the future urgently need qualified personnel.

With the project „Education in Professional Capacity (EPC) – Dual Vocational Training Center for a Sustainable Future in Western Ghana“, we are developing a state-accredited dual vocational training center in Busua. The project combines education, the circular economy and local economic development in an integrated approach and creates long-term prospects for young people.

Over 1,200 young people benefit during the project period directly from the EPC vocational training center through certified block courses, multi-year dual vocational training and the targeted further training of teachers, creating qualified specialists and sustainable training structures in the region in the long term.

Education as a driver for sustainable development

EPC relies on a dual training model that consistently combines theoretical knowledge and practical application. Training takes place in the classroom as well as in real production and operational structures. OPC’s existing infrastructure in Busua forms the basis, including a mill for sustainable palm oil with an integrated biogas plant (bottom left) and a guesthouse for sustainable hospitality (bottom right). These structures will be further developed into a state-recognized vocational training center.

The first courses in organic farming along the palm oil value chain and in sustainable hospitality will start in 2026, supplemented by certified block courses in renewable energies. In subsequent years, the range will be expanded to include sustainable construction, construction and infrastructure technology and solar technology. In addition to technical qualifications, entrepreneurial thinking, personal responsibility and digital skills are taught.

The result is a practical training model that combines economic development, ecological responsibility and social stability and can serve as a transferable model for other regions.
